Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex final release is less than a month away. The scheduled date is 30th October 2008. As I wrote this, the first beta should be available for download at any moment.
One major change is the new Xorg 7.4. Based on past experience with NVIDIA restricted driver after the update to Xorg 7.3 in Hardy Heron, I am anticipating issues this time around as well. Hence, I am planning to test the beta release on a PC with NVIDIA graphics.
In addition, I heard rumors in the grapevine that Intrepid should now just work with eeePC. My eeePC is my main computing device these days, so I am as yet undecided whether to install Intrepid beta on it. But it would be useful in the long run to find and report bugs early.
To help spread the word, I added a countdown banner on the main page of this site. Currently, the banner is still showing the previous release, Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron. However, it should eventually show the countdown to Intrepid Ibex, as the final release date got closer.
