Additional pidgin plugin pack and smiley themes

If you are using Pidgin, you might want to install pidgin-plugin-pack, which gives you 30 additional plugins.  Some examples:

  • Highlight: adds support for highlighting user specified words
  • Ignore: ignore either all or just chat communication from a specific person
  • Last Seen: tooltip with time a buddy has been offline and their last message
  • Offline Message: saves messages sent to an offline user until they log in

and many more.  The full list of plugins can be found in Synaptic Package Manager.  To install, run this command in terminal:

sudo apt-get install pidgin-plugin-pack

In addition, the default smiley theme gives a bunch of goofy looking smileys (no offense to the theme creator).  It was one of the first thing I went hunting for a replacement.  Luckily, there is a theme collection in the Ubuntu repository, so look no further. To install, run this command in terminal:

sudo apt-get install pidgin-themes
